The yard
Pershing has built fast motor yachts at Mondolfo, on Italy's Adriatic coast, since 1985, and has belonged to the Ferretti Group since 1998. One designer, Fulvio De Simoni, has drawn every Pershing from the first, which gives the range a continuity few yards can claim: a long, low profile, a sharp bow and a cockpit that opens onto the water. Surface drives and large engine packages put the biggest models above 40 knots.
The models buyers look for
The range runs from the Pershing 5X, at 16 metres, to the Pershing 140, a 43-metre aluminium yacht that is the fastest of its size on the market. In Dubai, the 70 to 108 models are the most sought after: fast enough to reach the islands off Abu Dhabi in an afternoon, large enough to sleep eight guests in comfort. The newer GTX line adds a flybridge to the Pershing hull for owners who want more deck.
Buying a Pershing
A Pershing is an engineering object, and its engines and drives carry much of its value. We read the service history of the engine package and the surface drives, check the hours against the yacht's age, and look at the hull and the paintwork, which show hard use quickly on a fast yacht. An independent survey and a sea trial at full speed come before any commitment. Yachts that have chartered carry a record of how they have been run.
Keeping a Pershing in Dubai
Pershings are made for the Gulf: calm water, short distances, long sunsets. Berthing, crew and maintenance follow the purchase, and a Pershing on charter is one of the most requested yachts of the Dubai season. For other builders, see yachts for sale in Dubai.
